Myth... The chart in the original article is expressed in terms of ratios and not absolute numbers. Which means that: If you go easy, a bigger percentage of the calories you burn come from fatty acids, but the total calories you burn is low. If you go hard, the opposite is true: a lower percentage comes from fatty acids, but the total calories burnt is high. Want to lose weight? Burn off more calories than you ingest, and the harder and longer you exercise the more calories you burn. However, you still need to make sure you eat sensibly, because if you over-eat you'll never lose weight no matter how you exercise. |

You can pretty much ignore protein as an energy source as your body uses protein only under extreme conditions (e.g. ultra endurance events). |
